Arafat in Jordan to discuss the peace process

Originally published

Jordan's King Abdullah discussed with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, who is visiting Amman for the first time since his participation in the funeral of the late King Hussein last month, means of activating the peace process.

Arafat informed King Abdullah of the current position toward Israel's non-commitment to the Wye River accord, which the late Jordanian monarch helped mediate last year.

Arafat said there is nothing new regarding the accord and that he hopes on May 4, the end date of the transitional period determined by the Oslo agreement, to reach an agreement for the final status.

King Abdullah undertook in the meeting to support Palestine and expressed his anxiety toward the peace process' halt in the Middle East and the lack of implementation of the Wye River agreement.
