Italy to host forum of women lawmakers from Euro-Mediterranean region

Italy will host by mid 1999 a forum of women lawmakers from Euro-Mediterranean countries.

The decision was made at the meeting of speakers of Mediterranean parliaments, which wound up Monday its first session in Palma de Majorca.

For speaker of the Italian chamber of representatives, Luciano Violente, the forum will be the best opportunity to exchange ideas and address problems shared by women MPs in the 15 European countries and the 12 south Mediterranean nations.

He said dialogue between female legislators will be more efficient, mainly regarding the issue of human rights.
