Chairman of the Israeli al-Wasat (middle) party Yitzhak Mordechai has said that during the recent session of the security and political team in which he took part, he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he is not ready to launch a war against Syria in order to win the elections.

Israeli Army Radio quoted Mordechai as saying to the Kull al-Arab daily published on Tuesday in Israel that he prevented the occurrence of several military operations despite the pressures placed on him by Israeli Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon and other Israeli officials in the government of Netanyahu.

Mordechai added that he, together with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak prevented the deterioration of conditions in the Middle East.

Mordechai said that he respects the Arab leaders, adding that he can be a bridge to link all them together since all of them have great respect for him.

He in this respect noted the warm welcome he received during his meeting with the Jordanian King Abdullah and with President Mubarak, whom he met during the funeral of the late King Hussein of Jordan in Amman.
