The Kurdistani Workers Party (PKK) has asserted that it shot down on Sunday a Turkish Army helicopter in southeastern Turkey and that the incident resulted in the death of 20 Turkish soldiers on board the helicopter. AFP quoted the Pro-PKK party "Deem" news agency as saying the aircraft is of Sikorsky type. Meanwhile, Turkey on Monday denied news that the PKK downed a Turkish military helicopter in the southeastern part of the country.

The deputy official in charge of the security department in Deyar, Baker Haqqi Ozoun, told the AFP that such an incident did not take place.
