Fire breaks in a gas station in Bahrain

Originally published

Three masked men on Monday set fire in a gas station in Manama on Monday at dawn, in an attack similar to those usually carried out by extremist Shiites, who started an anti-government campaign to get further political rights.

Well-informed sources in Manama said the attack on the gas station, located ar the entrance to a Shiite agricultural area, resulted in no casualties.

It is the first act of violence to erupt in Bahrain since the death of the late Bahraini Emir Sheikh Issa Bin Salman al-Khaleifa on Saturday. No side claimed responsibility for the attack.

The well-informed source in al-Manama noted that it is expected that the new Emir will pursue tougher measures to contain the Shiite rebellion, which has so far resulted in the death of 40 persons since December 1994.
