It was decided to put for sale the project of upgrading Areesh Harbor for investment according to the B.O.T. (build-operate-transfer) system among Arab and Egyptian investors at the cost of 210 million pounds.

The governor of northern Sinai, Ali Hefzy, said the harbor was raised for a period that varies between 20 and 25 years, and the project includes building a waterfront for receiving ships of up to 120,000 tonnes and establishing a trade zone for storage of containers, companies for unloading and shipping, maintenance facilities and navigational services.

The preliminary study determined that the project would include three stages. The first includes building a breakwater 800 m long and establishing a platform 250 m long and 12 m wide at the cost of 900 million pounds, to be completed in three years.

The second stage includes establishing a platform for goods 350 m long and 12 m wide, to be completed in two years.

The third stage includes increasing the depth of the navigational canal and the harbor basin to 14 meters and establishing a platform for containers within three years.
