Delegation from Burkina Faso breaks air embargo on Libya

Originally published

An airplane transporting an official delegation from Burkina Faso arrived yesterday at Tripoli airport, breaching the air embargo imposed by the United Nations on Libya since 1992.

The Libyan news agency stated that Libyan Minister of Transportation Ez El-Din El-Hanshiri received the delegation, which was headed by Burkina Faso's minister of state for irrigation and environment.

The delegation said the plane's arrival in Libya is in line with a decision taken by the Organization of African Unity at its 1998 summit meeting. Since the decision went into effect, numerous African officials have flown directly into Libya in violation of the UN ban.
