Jordan denies that Israel is cause of water problem

Originally published

Jordanian Minister of Water and Irrigation Hani al-Mulki has denied reports which stated that Israel has halted the pumping of water to Jordan from al-Yarmouk river and Tabaria lake via Dajania pipeline due to drought and the reduction of the water level.

He added in statements to reporters in Amman, "Our right to water according to the treaty has no relevance to the drought." He noted that he visited the northern valleys in al-Adaseyah district and was acquainted with the fair distribution of irrigation waters.

Earlier, the Jordanian weekly al-Hadath reported that the Israeli government intended to halt the pumping of water from Tabaria Lake to Jordan, a matter which is in contradiction with the water agreement signed between the Jordanian and Israeli sides in accordance with the Wadi Araba agreement.
