Reconciliation between Ode Saddam Hussein and al-Takriti

Originally published

Well-informed Iraqi sources asserted that a meeting was held in Baghdad between Ode, the oldest son of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and his uncle, the former Iraqi ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Barazan al-Takriti, during the past few days.

The sources added that the said meeting put an "ultimate end" to disputes between the two prominent figures in the ruling family in Iraq. The sources stated that this reconciliation between Ode and his uncle will pave the way towards a "remarkable" political position Barazan al-Takriti will acquire.

Al-Takriti returned to Baghdad in last December three months after the end of his term of office in Geneva. Al-Takriti said his being late to come back home was because he was beside his wife, Ahlam al-Takriti, who was under medical treatment for cancer and died later in Geneva.

Al-Takriti's wife was the sister of Saddam's first wife, Sajeda Kheit Allah. However, disputes emerged between the Iraqi president and his half brother that surfaced in 1983 when Barazan was the chief of intelligence.

The president removed his brother to outside the government until 1988 when Barazan became Iraq's representative at the UN in Geneva.
