Libya: Lockerbie suspects will be imprisoned only in Libya

Originally published

Libyan Foreign Minister Omar El-Montasser stated that Libya will not accept any alternative to jailing the two Libyan suspects in the Lockerbie case in a Libyan prison should they be convicted.

This came in direct reply to statements by British Foreign Minister Robin Cook, who stated that there is no alternative to jailing the two suspects in a Scottish jail in the case they are found responsible for the December 1988 explosion of a Pan Am passenger jet over Lockerbie, Scotland.

El-Montasir said that things are positively developing and there is a remarkable progress that has taken place regarding the guaranties demanded by Libya for trying the two suspects, yet he added that there are many topics that must be addressed before the trial.
