US ambassador speaks about al-Assad - Clinton meeting
The US ambassador in Tel Aviv, Edward Walker, has described the meeting between Syrian President Hafez al-Assad with US President Bill Clinton in Amman on Monday, on the sidelines of the two presidents' participation in King Hussein's funeral, as "very important."
Walker stressed on Tuesday the determination of the US administration to make a breakthrough in the peace negotiations, asserting that the US is very keen to make such a breakthrough.
The US ambassador, on the other hand, has urged officials in the Israeli government and the Palestinian government to abide by implementing their obligations according to Wye River agreement.
He indicated that holding a meeting between US President Bill Clinton, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu depends on achieving such obligations.
