Mauritanian Authorities Cancel Rigged Municipal Vote in Nouakchott

Originally published

Mauritanian interior minister, Dah Ould Abdeljelil, announced Sunday the cancellation of results of Friday's municipal elections in the capital city of Nouakchott and that new elections will be held next week. The minister ascribed the decision to frauds reported in the voting, mainly the use of faked identity cards. The ruling social and democratic republican party emerged as the winner capturing 100 % of the votes.

The voting was canceled in other Mauritanian constituencies for the same reasons.
