Turkey studies the situation in Iraq
The deputy spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Sarmid Atajnli, has asserted that the Turkish Foreign Ministry is embarking on studying recent developments concerning Iraq, according to the directives of Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit.
In a press conference he held in Ankara on Wednesday Atajnli added, "Turkey's stand towards developments in Iraq can not be disclosed now before the Turkish Foreign Ministry completes preparing its special studies in this respect."
He added that Turkey has been suffering material losses as a result of what happened and of what is taking place in Iraq. He added that such losses and damages are not limited to material aspects, "rather political aspects because Iraq is a neighboring country and that Turkey feels great concern over what is taking place in the region."
Atajnli indicated that when Turkey finishes drawing its proposals to find out a solution to problems in Iraq, it will convey these proposals to the United States via diplomatic channels, since the US realizes the Turkish sensitivity towards what is taking place in Iraq.
