Well-informed sources in Dubai said the Higher Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq stressed on Friday that Iraq had built up its troops on the border with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

AFP quoted the spokesman for the council as saying in a telephone conversation from London that the Iraqi government expected a new US-British strike following the month of Ramadan, therefore it started to build up its troops near its borders with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during the last week of Ramadan.

In a statement, the Higher Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, which is headquartered in Iran, said that military units equipped with air-surface Sam 6, missiles including units from the Iraqi Presidential Guard, were recently seen on the highway in the south conducive to al-Amara and al-Basra cities.

The statement added that other military units were deployed near the border with Saudi Arabia on the road between al-Basra and al-Nasereyah.
