King Hussein: Reports on succession mere forecasts

Originally published

King Hussein of Jordan said on Tuesday that reports on his succession will remain mere forecasting.

King Hussein, who returned home Tuesday after long cancer treatment in the United States, said in statements to reporters "the decision (over succession) will be taken here and after meticulous review."

"Whatever you said and whatever you imagined, I announce to you, that as we did in the past, we will decide with a sense of responsibility towards the present and the future. Do not rush to predictions," King Hussein added.

Press reports earlier last week said the king is expected to take crucial decisions in the coming weeks concerning the succession to the throne.

The king, 63, is expected to revive the "family council," a consultative council on the monarchy.
