Testimony of Kuwaiti chief editor Bu Yabes visit to Israel

Originally published

Chief editor of the Kuwaiti daily al-Seyasah Ahmad al-Jarullah has given his testimony before the Kuwaiti general court on the visit of journalist Ahmad Bu Yabes to Israel last month.

The visit was viewed by the court as contact with Israel. In two separate statements, the Kuwaiti Journalists Union and Bar Association denounced Bu Yabes' visit to Israel, while the Kuwaiti Nation's Council (parliament) asked for putting the case before the court and for taking necessary measures against Bu Yabes.

The Kuwaiti daily al-Seyasah said on Monday that al-Jarullah said in his testimony that Bu Yabes asked for his consent to go to Israel and he agreed, saying, "If Bu Yabes did not go I would have gone instead of him."

The court accused al-Jarullah of encouraging the visit to Israel.

The Kuwaiti minister of the interior has released a decision withdrawing the passport of Bu Yabes, which is still in the investigation file.

Upon his arrival from Israel Bu Yabes was brought before the state's first security court.
