Morocco increases sugar beet cultivated areas by 27%
Morocco increased this season its sugar beet cultivated lands by 27% to 60,000 hectares to enhance the country's sugar output and face increasing demand.
Morocco produced in 1997 over 404,506 tonnes in beetroot and sugar canes while consumption exceeded 882,000 tonnes. To make up for this deficit, the Moroccan authorities imported 567,762 tonnes of sugar in 1997 against 509,516 tonnes in 1996.
