Egyptian human rights organization concern over official statements
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights has reacted to statements made by Egyptian Minister of the Interior Habib al-Adli and viewed these statements as "defaming the reputation of Egypt and contradicting statements made by the Foreign Ministry and its obligations in international circles."
In a speech he delivered before the national security committee at the Egyptian Parliament, al-Adli on Monday warned those who he referred to as "the ones who want to push the country into the circle of tension through provoking problems."
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights linked the statement made by al-Adli and what he also called "rejecting bargaining on the question of national unity and the human rights."
A statement issued by the organization on Tuesday in Cairo expressed "deep concern" over al-Adli's statements and viewed them as "accusations sent to create an atmosphere against the human rights movement in Egypt."
The organization's secretary general, Hafez Abu-Se'da, told the London-based al-Hayat daily that these statements are being made following a campaign launched by security circles against the organization over its role in "unveiling events relating to torturing citizens inside police sections and departments."
