More killings in Algeria

Algerian dailies published on Sunday said that 39 persons were killed in recent days in acts of violence carried out by the Armed Islamic Group.

The papers added that some 22 persons were killed late on Friday night in Wad al-Atshan area in Saida district, 450 km southwest of the capital Algiers.

The Algerian dailies added that more than 12 policemen were killed on Wednesday and Friday in two attacks in Oran and Der al-Maizan districts. The Algerian daily al-Watan said that five citizens were murdered in Ain Defla district.

On the other hand, the central bureau for statistics in Algiers said number of the Algerian citizens is 29,276,767, according to the last census held in July 1998, MENA reported.
