US Senate delegation in Amman
Jordanian Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh on Sunday held talks in Amman with a delegation from the US Senate led by Senator Arlen Specter. The talks dealt with conditions in the Middle East and means of strengthening relations between Amman and Washington.
The Jordanian news agency, Petra, said that during the meeting, Tarawneh reiterated the call for lifting the embargo imposed on Iraq for eight years and quoted the Jordanian Premier as asserting Jordan's desire to "implement the principle of comprehensive security in the region so as to be able to cope with social and economic development challenges like other world countries."
Tarawneh reiterated Jordan's position, which called "since 1991 for terminating the siege imposed on the people of Iraq and to settle disputes by peaceful means and through dialogue."
Specter, who is also chairman of the Veterans Affairs committee at the US Senate, is on a tour covering several Arab Gulf and Middle Eastern countries.
