Arafat hails King Hassan stands in favor of Palestinian cause

Originally published

Palestinian President Yasser Arafat hailed King Hassan II's stands in favor of the Palestinian cause.

Arafat, who sent King Hassan II a message, expressed "deep gratitude for the laudable efforts" made by the Moroccan King to support the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle to recover their inalienable rights, including their right to return, to self-determination and to an independent state with Al-Quds Asharif as capital.

King Hassan II is chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, an offshoot of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), in charge of safeguarding the Arab and Islamic identity of the holy city.

"You have always extended the best backing to our cause and our people," Arafat said, before recalling King Hassan II's "noble positions" in all Arab summits and within the Al-Quds Committee. He also paid tribute to the Moroccan king for the Kingdom's contribution to the construction of the Gaza International Airport.

The Gaza Airport, named after President Arafat, was dedicated last November.
