France wants UN Security role concerning Iraq

French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin said that efforts should be exerted to restore the UN Security Council's role concerning the Iraqi crisis. The French Premier told the French National Assembly in its Tuesday session that "some are for ignoring the role of the council," in reference to the US. Jospin said Paris's proposals to draw up a new plan to supervise Iraq's armaments and to seek the lifting of the oil embargo are compatible with the objectives the UN wants to realize.
