Cornerstone to be laid for biggest suspension bridge in Egypt
Egyptian Minister of Transportation Soliman Metwali will place together with Japanese Minister of State Mino Suzuki at the end of the current month the cornerstone for the Suez Canal's suspension bridge, whose cost reached nearly 38 million pounds, to which Japan is contributing the construction work. The project will be completed at the end of the year 2001. Japanese companies will tackle implementing the metal part of the bridge whose height is 70 meters above the canal to allow the large ships, supertankers and aircraft carriers to pass through the canal.
