Syrian lawyers protest attacks against Iraq
The Syrian Bar Association on Saturday suspended all court hearings in Syrain courts at 10.00 a.m. (Damascus local time) as an expression of the condemnation and denunciation by the Syrian lawyers of the US and British military attacks against the "brotherly people of Iraq."
The Bar Association asked the judges to record their position in the trial sessions as an assertion of strong solidarity with the people of Iraq.
Meanwhile, Syrian Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Kiftaro, who is also the chief of the Supreme Fatwa Council, also called on world governments to act quickly to halt the attacks being carried out against Iraq.
In his weekly lecture given at Abi al-Nour mosque in Damascus on Friday, Kiftaro described the US - British attacks on Iraq as international terrorism, an immoral act that grossly contradicts the UN charter and human rights legislation.
