Kurdish national council to be formed within months
Chairman of the Kurdish parliament in exile Yasar Kaya said that within the coming months a meeting will be held for Kurds from Syria, Iraq, Iran and Turkey in order to maintain Kurdish national unity in the region.
In a telephone interview with the Turkish Daily News published on Thursday, Kaya said that a Kurdish national council will be announced within the coming months. He added that following three years of preliminary meetings, it was found that the Kurds are in need of a council that can maintain their national unity.
He stated that during the last three months, two or three meetings were held in Belgium in order to establish the Kurdish national council in Brussels, adding that the Kurds are now about to establish this council, which will include Kurds from Iran, Iraq and Syria.
He added that four parties from Iraq and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, led by Jalal a Talibani are involved.
He said the Kurds aim to establish a "federal solution which does not undermine the territorial unity of Turkey."
He added that Alawites and Islamic organizations in Turkey are included within the Kurdish organizations.
Meanwhile, the paper quoted Shazad Saeb, the representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Ankara, as saying in a statement to the Turkish Daily News that the idea of establishing a national council was an old plan which did not succeed.
But he did not clarify whether the PUK supports such a plan.
