Nine Palestinian National Council members boycotted session to cancel charter provisions

News reports from the West Bank said that nine members of the Palestinian National Council for Bethlehem district boycotted on Tuesday the session held in Gaza in the presence of chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat and the US Bill Clinton during which provisions of the Palestinian National Charter that referred to the destruction of Israel were abrogated.

Those figures are Mustafa Akhmis, Mahmoud Fonoun, Hesham Abu Ghousheh, Issa al-Ezzah, Dr. Peter Qamri, Hussein Rahhaal, Youssef Sharqawi, Beshara Dawoud and Ismael Abu Joudeh.

During the session, Arafat called on members of the PNC and central council and executive committee of the PLO to vote for canceling provisions of the Palestinian National Charter by raising their hands. The cancellation was approved.
