Moroccan tomatoes in US market

Morocco will export this season nearly 400 tons of tomatoes to the USA, Moroccan "La vie Economique" reported in its latest release.

The 1st shipment of the Moroccan tomatoes will be made as of Dec.21.

Moroccan Tomato farmers are allowed to export up to 5,000 tons as fixed by the US Trade and Agriculture departments.

Morocco has so far exported to Europe over 55,6 tons of tomatoes while in 1996-97 and 1997-98 exports stood respectively at 23,000 and 48,000 tons.

During this season, tomato production is expected to increase to 500,000 tons while global exports are due to reach 260,000 Tons.
