Kuwaiti official in Tehran to attend Islamic parliaments' conference
Chairman of the Kuwaiti Nation's Council (Parliament) Ahmad al-Sadoun arrived in Tehran on Monday to take part in the preliminary meeting of the Islamic parliamentary conference.
In an arrival statement to reporters, al-Sadoun expressed hope that the meeting will achieve objectives set out by the Islamic countries.
Meetings of the preliminary committee for the federation of Islamic countries' parliaments started in Tehran on Monday with the participation of representatives from 30 Islamic countries.
Chairman of the Iranian Shoura council Nateq Nouri said in an inaugural speech that the future of the Islamic world depends on the collective participation in taking inter-Islamic decisions on the principle of consultations and the exchange of views on various judicial issues of concern to the Islamic world.
Nouri added that the foundation and the setting up of the Organization of the Islamic Conference was a positive step strengthening cooperation among the Islamic countries. Nouri indicated the need to lay a constituent for setting up a Islamic parliamentary federation, noting, "The already-prepared script for an international document was made by Islamic countries experts."
Nouri invited heads of Islamic countries to take part in the meeting to be held in the Spring of 1999 in Tehran.
On behalf of the participating delegation al-Sadoun praised the Iranian proposal to set up a federation for the Islamic countries parliaments. He stressed the need to ratify this Iranian proposal. He added, "We meet today in Tehran to take a decision pertaining to the Islamic nation which suffers several problems."
