Libya demands lifting of sanctions in return for delivering suspects for trial
Libyan Foreign Minister Omar El-Montassir and the Secretary of the People's External Liaison and International Cooperation Bureau demanded yesterday the lifting of the sanctions imposed on his country since 1992 in return for delivering the suspects in the Lockerbie case for trial.
El-Montassir stated before the people's general conference in Sert city that Libya accepted the principle of a trial in a third country, while the rest of the details have not yet been agreed upon during his meeting with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, who visited Libya last week.
He also revealed that he discussed with Annan all the Security Council resolutions regarding the case and that he determined Libya's refusal of some provisions of these resolutions, pointing to the importance of adjusting these provisions before they are accepted by Libya.
