Congressman Campbell in Morocco as US direct investment rise
Moroccan minister in charge of the Government's General affairs, Ahmed Lahlimi, conferred Tuesday here with Congressional Representative Tom Campbell, member of the US House committee in charge of Africa, on bilateral relations and topical issues of common concern.
The two sides reviewed latest socio-economic and political developments in Africa and stressed the need to enhance partnership in matters of technical training, scientific research and administrative management.
They also called for the development of Moroccan-American trade exchanges, economic cooperation and investment.
A group of ninety senators and congressmen sent last july a letter to President Bill Clinton, praising Morocco for having consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to peace, stability and constitutional democracy.
The Moroccan economic policies have led to an increase of more than 300 percent in the U.S. direct investment over the past year, the US congressmen said, urging president Clinton to undertake all appropriate steps to strengthen US-Moroccan cooperation.
