A United Nations executive was killed in a road accident on the road to the Sahara, southern Morocco, and another was injured, U.N Secretary-General, Kofi Annan said on Wednesday.

"I regret that we lost yesterday one of our colleagues in an accident in Western Sahara," Annan said at a press conference.

The injured executive is now in the hospital, Annan said, without elaborating. Annan's spokesman said the accident near the town of Dakhla, southern Morocco was caused by a flat tyre.
