Taxes on imported cigarettes in Egypt set at 7 percent

Originally published

The Egyptian tax department issued yesterday a decision to impose taxes of 7% on imported cigarettes and 2.7% on locally-manufactured cigarettes at the beginning of January.

The taxes reached these percentages in spite of strong rumors of a nearing decision to increase the taxes imposed on cigarettes as per the economical reform plan that has been implemented by the Egyptian government since 1988.
