Originally published

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid renewed his support for Israel's implementation of UN resolution 425 and its unconditional withdrawal from south Lebanon.

In a statement he gave on Wednesday to Sawt al-Arab radio, Abdul Meguid called for putting pressure on the Israeli government to conform to the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions, foremost being resolution 425.

He added that threats of increased Israeli aggression would only make the problem more complex.

On the situation in Iraq, Abdul Meguid stressed that the AL opposes any military act against Iraq. He noted the need to turn to dialogue and carry out UN resolutions in this respect.
