Iraq proposes its program on oil-for-food agreement

Originally published

Iraq has proposed to the UN its special program on distributing food and medicines in the framework of the new phase of the oil-for-food agreement.

The spokesman for the UN humanitarian program George Summerwell was quoted in Baghdad as saying that Iraq is preparing to present its full program and relevant additional parts to the UN.

Summerwell added the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is expected to sign this program during the coming days.

Earlier Iraq had approved the renewal of the humanitarian agreement for six months after it had asked to extend the fourth phase of the program for only two months.

The oil-for-food agreement allows for Iraq to sell a limited amount of oil to buy food, medicinal and other needs within the UN comprehensive sanctions against it.
