AL warns Netanyahu against halting Wye agreement
The Arab League warned yesterday of the danger Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's decision to halt the Wye River poses to the peace process and the stability of the situation in the region.
AL Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid announced the opposition of the AL to this decision and he warned against the continuation of the Israeli settlement policy. Abdul Meguid said that statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon are irrational and a very dangerous matter.
The assistant secretary general for Palestinian affairs at AL, Said Kamal, criticized the statements made by Sharon calling on Jewish settlers to take over more land in the Arab occupied territories.
Kamal described Sharon's statements as an expansion of the extremist policy headed by the Israel FM that contradicts 4th agreements of Geneva Convention and peace agreements.
Kamal called on the international community to take effective measures to halt the obstinacy of Israel.
