European and Mediterranean security officials meet in Brussels

Originally published

Senior officials in charge of political and security dialogue in Europe and the Mediterranean will meet on November 24 in Brussels.

Participants will discuss a draft charter for peace and stability in the mediterranean, destined to materialize the commitments of the Euro-Mediterranean partners "to endeavor for the consolidation of peace and stability in the region."

The draft charter will be a step forward in the process launched in 1995 by the Barcelona Declaration. Since then, Mediterranean and European security officials have held 14 meetings.

The second Euro-Med conference of foreign ministers, held in April 1997 in Malta, renewed the need to devise the charter.
