Morocco set to protect intellectual property

Originally published

Means to protect industrial property were the focus of talks held in Rabat on Monday between speaker of the house of representatives (the parliament's lower house), Abdelouahed Radi, and chairwoman of the French national anti-counterfeiting committee, Brigitte Douay.

Both sides stressed the need to exert more efforts to fight counterfeiting and to adopt a multidimensional approach for a better regulation of the market at the turn of the century.

A bill on the protection of industrial property tabled before the Moroccan parliament is being debated by committees.

Brigitte Douay, who is also a socialist MP, held a similar meeting with speaker of the Moroccan chamber of advisors (upper house), Jalal Essaid.

Essaid said the chamber is determined to contribute to the creation of a juridical framework in the form of a national structure to protect intellectual property.

The move, he said, will protect national economy against unfair competition.

Brigitte Douay expressed the wish that Morocco will develop juridical bases that will enable it contribute to international efforts to protect trade-marks, especially so as the kingdom is bound by diversified economic relations with international markets.
