Originally published

Morocco's carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), said it will launch new flights for the 1998-99 winter season and expressed its intention to carry 3.5 million passengers during fiscal 1998-99.

RAM said in a release faxed to MAP that the number of seats will be increased by 18 percent for the regular international flights and by 20.5 percent for charter ones.

The increase will be accompanied by a price compression and a stronger promotion in the most important markets in a bid to contribute to the development of tourism in Morocco, RAM added.

The number of seats on France-bound flights will be increased by 19 percent for regular flights and 20 percent for charter flights.

Flights toward Europe in general will jump by 13.5 percent for regular flights and 21 percent for charter ones. Africa and Middle East-bound flights will also increase by 30 percent for the regular flights.

The carrier, which purchased two Boeing 737-800 aircraft last summer, will receive next spring-summer two Boeing 737-700. Two other planes of the same type in addition to a Boeing 737-800 will beef up RAM's fleet by the summer of 2000.

The new planes will increase the Moroccan carrier's fleet from 27 to 32 airliners.
