The fifth international Zakat (Alms) Conference on Sunday in Kuwait called on Islamic governments to work out laws and regulations over the Zakat ordinance, Kuwaiti news agency Kuna reported.
The participants praised the role of Zakat in social and economic development and recommended that the collection, distribution and promotion of Zakat be assigned to one or several trustworthy bodies in each Muslim society.
The conference stressed the need to hold a seminar on defining the poverty line in Muslim Societies.
The importance of creating an international body that would coordinate between Zakat institutions over the world was also underlined.
