Morocco concerned over forest depletion

Originally published

The Moroccan secretary of state in charge of environment warned against the depletion of the Moroccan large forest of Mamora (north of Rabat) which plays a key role in social and economic fields.

If no measure is taken to protect the forest, it will disappear by the year 2030, Ahmed Iraqui told a meeting on environment and development, held over the weekend in Khemisset.

Recent statistics made public by the environment department showed that some 31,000 hectares of forests disappear every year in Morocco.

Iraqui stressed the need to protect the green spaces and called for the creation of socio-economic projects establishing a balance between environment protection and development.
