human rights group criticize Sunday Telegraph allegations

Originally published

The Center for Human Rights in Egypt said that the information published by the British newspaper Sunday Telegraph on the persecution of Coptics in Egypt is false.

The statement released by the center said that all information in the report was exaggerated, especially concerning methods of torture, and the report also exaggerated the number of those arrested in El-Koseh village, adding that the excesses of the security men affected both Moslems and Coptics in this village.

Moreover the center urged the international media to examine accurately reports published on religious persecution in Egypt.

The statement said that false information on this issue doesn't pave the way for any calm discussion around the human rights situation in Egypt.

Meanwhile, Foreign monks and nuns living in Egypt criticized a report by a British newspaper about persecuting the Coptics in Egypt. The monks described the newspaper's allegations as being absolutely untrue. Italian monk Joseph Iscatholine stated that the Egyptians welcomed the monks and that they do not feel persecution in Egypt.
