Future laws announced to rev-up local councils in Moroccan minister says
Moroccan Interior Minister, Driss Basri, announced on Monday that some major draft laws will be submitted shortly to the parliament to rev-up the economic initiative of local councils.
The draft laws include a text on delegate management, which will govern the basic principles for the transfer of urban networks and services to the private sector, Basri said in an address before the 7th national colloquy on local councils, currently held in Casablanca.
The Interior Minister also announced that fundamental reforms are envisioned to improve the elected representatives' statute and modernize the local councils administrative structures.
Basri also surveyed the various stages covered by Morocco in its decentralization process with a special emphasis on the major reforms ushered by Morocco in this regard.
Several heads of foreign delegations, attending the meeting, highlighted the timeliness of the colloquy which will help them trade experience in the field of local management.
