Damascus Declaration signatory states' FMs meet in Doha

Originally published

Foreign Ministers of the Damascus Declaration signatory states will hold a two-day meeting in Doha on November 11.

The French press agency AFP said among the most important issues to be debated on the meeting's agenda are the process of cooperation between the declaration's member states, developments concerning the Middle East peace process, the situation in Iraq, ties with Iran, the recent Turkish - Syrian disputes and the issue of terrorism.

The Damascus Declaration member states include the states of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council as well as Syria and Egypt. The meeting was due at the end of 1997 but has been postponed several times.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa confirmed that the Damascus Declaration is still alive and was not buried yet in the "grave of Arab history."

Moussa also said: "We are working on activating this declaration all the time," as the Doha meetings of the Damascus Declaration foreign ministers will be held before the middle of November within the context of the efforts exerted to activate the agreement.
