Jordanian efforts for releasing political Jordanian detainees in Syria

The Jordanian weekly al-Bilad said that independent Jordanian figures intend to visit Syria where they will meet with Syrian officials to ask for the release of several Jordanian political detainees.

The paper added that these Jordanian figures will try during their visit to Syria to obtain a list of the names of detainees who had received prison sentences on various charges and to ascertain the reasons behind these sentences.

The paper added that the visits comes in the context of the "good offices" in not using this matter as means to escalate the situation between the two states.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian ambassador in Amman, Hani Riyadh, has asserted that Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa will make mediation efforts between Syria and Jordan to eliminate tension between the two countries.

In a statement to al-Quds daily published in the occupied Arab territories, the Egyptian ambassador added that the mediation will discuss means of suspending media campaigns between the two countries and discuss the reasons behind the dispute.
