Iraq replaces Aqaba with Syrian, Dubai ports for its imports

Originally published

Chairman of the Jordanian al-Na'ouri companies has said that Syria has offered facilities in using the Syrian ports for shipping Iraq commodities, a matter which has caused the Jordanian Aqaba port the loss of a great share of Iraqi commodities after being the western gate of Iraq to the world since the 1970s.

In a statement to the Jordanian daily al-Arab al-Youm, al-Na'ouri added that Iraq has changed the destination of its European and Western imports from Aqaba ports to alternative ports, foremost being the Syrian port of Tartous, Dubai and Um Qaser.

This change, he said was because of the international inspection measures at Aqaba port and the restrictions that limit the flow of commodities to the Iraqi markets.
