Turkish intelligence agents kidnapped

Originally published

The French news bulletin "Top Urgent" said today that the sudden escalation between Syria and Turkey despite the recent repeated meetings between the two sides is linked to kidnapping by the Kurdistani Workers Party (PKK) of Turkish intelligence agents in Lebanon.

The bulletin stated that the kidnapping operation targeted six agents of the Turkish military intelligence and several military men who entered into Lebanon with the objective of spying on the activities of the PKK.

The bulletin continued that Ankara has exerted great efforts in talking to Damascus for the latter to intervene to release those who were kidnapped. It noted that since then Lebanon has become a second front for war between the Turkish intelligence and the PKK.

The bulletin added that Turkish intelligence agents succeeded during June in recruiting five PKK activists who were forced later on to resort to the Turkish embassy in Beirut of fears of being discovered. They are there until now.

The bulletin said that despite its heavy losses, the PKK could strengthen relations with several countries in the region, including Armenia, Iran, the Cypriot -Greek and even Greece itself.
