Morocco stages anti-poverty solidarity week
Morocco will stage this October 14-26 a national solidarity week for the struggle against poverty.
The week, to be organized in collaboration with the UN development program, seeks to foster public awareness on the importance of solidarity and to encourage Moroccans to contribute to building a new culture favoring humanitarian actions.
It also aims to raise funds for the rehabilitation of charity houses and for the improvement of their services and performance.
Morocco, which counts nearly 28 million inhabitants, has some 3 million poor persons. More than half the Moroccan population is illiterate.
