Iraqi Islamic organization secretary visits Iran

Originally published

The Iraqi News agency said that secretary general of the People's Islamic Conference Organization Abdul Razzaq al-Saadi left Baghdad on Sunday for Tehran leading a delegation representing the organization, which was established following the war between Iraq and Iran.

The visit came at the invitation of the culture and Islamic relations organization in Iran, a governmental organization in charge of maintaining dialogue with monotheistic religions.

The agency reported that al-Saadi will discuss means of strengthening relations between the organization and the Iranian side in the field of Islamic activities. The agency added that "al-Saadi will, during his visit, highlight the adverse consequences of the repressive siege imposed on the Iraqi people and the Islamic stand needed to lift it."

Relations between Iran and Iraq have been improving ten years after the end of the 1980 - 1988 war between the two sides, which resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths.
