Tension continues between Turkey and Syria
The tensions between Turkey and Syria have escalated due to Turkey's threat to use force against Syria, accusing Syria of supporting the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), which Turkey considers a terrorist group.
Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa came back yesterday form his trip abroad after a phone call made to him by Damascus for the purpose of making communication with Arab officials and the Arab League to inform them of the latest developments in the situation, as well as to gather the financial, spiritual and military support of Arab states.
The annual Turkish maneuvers held by NATO in the eastern Mediterranean Sea started in the Iskenderun region in southern Turkey in which Turkish and Greek armed forces both participated for the first time in 13 years.
Meanwhile, the Jordanian daily al-Dostour said today that the Syrian envoys to the Arab states will explain the dimensions of the recent Turkish threats against Syria, in light of an already started large-scale Turkish attack against the rebellions of the Kurdistani party.
Al-Dostour said added that the Syrian delegates will explain the Syrian view points, especially after the Syrian share of the Euphrates river waters had been vulnerable to tangible reduction. The paper added to that, is that the view points of the Syrian leadership say that the Turkish threats coincide with getting Iran involved in a war with Taleban and pro-Taleban countries.
The paper continued that Syria viewed the Turkish threats as an Israeli-Western war message to isolate Syria from its Iranian ally in case Iran is dragged to a war or if Israel strikes the Iranian military industries which has recently produced a sophisticated missile.
The paper added, according to its information, it is not decided yet to dispatch any Syrian delegate to Amman, whereas observers see that Jordan can play the role of peace mediator between Syria and Turkey.
