Algeria: Government abides by implementing demands of labor union
Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Oyehia and the secretary-general of the labor union, Sidi El-Said signed yesterday a protocol for an agreement that contains the government's commitment to implementing seven demands presented by the union.
An Algerian diplomatic source in Cairo said today that the negotiations took place at government headquarters between Oyehia and El-Said on an agenda that comprises seven points to which the government committed in a meeting on March 26 that were seriously considered then neglected, which pushed the union to declare an open strike and refuse to meet with the government.
The union's demands include allowing labor into the privatization policy decisions as agreed to by Algeria in its agreement with the International Monetary Fund.
